From the IIDA Award Submission Form:

(Fig 1)
The station's architectural approach compliments historic flour mill nearby. Lighting reinforces architecture by highlighting structural elements. Light levels established for well-being and safety of the commuters, energy code requirements, and project budget are balanced together. Finally, lighting provides way-finding for the many people using the facility.

(Fig 2)
Fixtures simulating Asian architecture emphasize visual connection to pagoda located across from station.

(Fig 3)
Compact fluorescent jelly-jar bollard fixtures modified to mount on posts help passengers find the shelters while adding interest to mast arms suspending the canopy.

(Fig 4)
Narrow HID step lights solve restricted mounting opportunities in steel stairway frame. Coordination between trades provides a clean transition.

(Fig 5)
Indirect lighting for pedestrian bridge emphasizes architecture of roof while providing low contrasts for safe, glare-free passage. Metal halide spots accenting decorative metal paneling on bridge are located safely from edge of platform for easy maintenance. Underside of bridge is highlighted by single metal halide flood at each end. Step lights found at stairs and ramps provide safe movement to and from the platform and consistency in design.

(Fig 6)
Design coordination allowed canopy uplights to be mounted on large structural tube. Platform illuminated by curved floods with ribbed die-cast housing and glare shields mounted to poles. Shape of fixture matches architectural forms expressed in canopies and pedestrian bridge roof.

(Fig 7)
Indirect lighting under canopies reveal its construction while providing low-glare lighting. Low-level step lights help identify structural elements and reduce potential trip hazards. Overall, appropriate luminaire selection and design helped project meet budget requirements.
