Awards OPUS Center - Buildings
2 & 3 Lighting Designer(s) Project Owner Photography The OPUS Center Buildings 2 and 3 lay at the edge of the International District across the street from two major sports facilities. Since it is home to several high profile clients, the impact of illumination for the exterior had multiple concerns. The desire was to create a design that sets the buildings apart from those surrounding them while providing a plaza that could be enjoyed day and night. Of first concern was illumination for security. This was accomplished by way of compact fluorescent downlights, column mounted biax uplights and halogen accent lighting along the building walkways and colonnade. Illumination of the vertical surfaces sets a backdrop for the security cameras. Plaza illumination consists of pole mounted 175W metal halide decorative lanterns, compact fluorescent decorative sconces and recessed steplights. Trees in the planters are illuminated with 35W metal halide adjustable landscape floods. This provides a comfortable, inviting level of illumination for evening use. The last piece of
the design in in architectural accent uplighting. Clusters of 4 to 6 -
175W metal halide 7 degree V x 40 degree H floods with 3000K sources are
mounted on light standards or architectural structures to wash the façade
of both buildings. 70W metal halide semi-recessed floods were mounted
in the handrail walls of the 9th floor balconies to provide a continuous
line of light for the parapet above them. This sets the buildings apart
from their neighbors creating a visual impact in the area. Go back to Notable Lighting Locations Go back to IIDA Awards |
