Awards ODS Tower Lighting Designer(s) Project Owner Photography Located in Portland, the ODS Tower features illumination for a prestigious office building. Areas of the project include the exterior, retail core and public areas. Situated on a highly visible corner in the heart of downtown, the building is a stunningly uplighted. The architectural elements on the building are accented with 10 degree spots shooting thrifty feet into the air. The fixtures utilize a 100PAR/HIR/SP10 lamp dimmed down to get 10,000 hours of life. Entrance into the retail core features a 3-story, 60-foot atrium, which is side lit for a dramatic effect. The fixtures are discretely mounted horizontally and vertically on the building mullions in order to achieve a 3:1 illumination ratio. The proper placement of the fixtures is necessary in order to maximize uniformity on the lighted surface and to reduce the potential for glare. Ceramic metal halide lamps with 3000K, 80 CRI color temperature were selected. This lamp offers stable color temperature over its' life, energy efficiency, low operating costs and extended life. The fixtures have remote ballasts in order to reduce their size. The elegant lobby
invites people into the building. During the day, the space is filled
with daylight. The 30-foot walls feature extensive artwork and wood paneling,
which are evenly lit. The ceramic metal halide wallwashers achieve a 3:1
illumination ratio. The compact fluorescent downlights with matching color
temperature provide ambient lighting. All illumination in the building
is controlled by a comprehensive energy management system. The understated
lighting layout complements the simplicity of the architecture.
