Awards Montecasino Lighting Designer(s) The Men and Women of Chorn Kirtland Riccardi Project Owner Photography A Tuscan hilltop theme carries through interiors boasting the Southern Hemisphere's largest ceiling expanse. Northwest ceilings portray dusk for player retention and romantic mood. T8 fluorescents and CMH asymmetrics wash vast sky murals. Maintenance, life and colorability drive backlit window source selection to 13 - 40W CFLs. Color sleeves radiate impressions of different occupants. Balancing levels at gaming tables' "Vs slots" was critical to maintaining feelings of open space. Miniature shielded MR16s accent tables. Deeply shielded quartz downlights perform similar tasks from high ceilings. Few tracks, carefully positioned, afford minimal impact while fevaling form and archtecture. Voltage is stepped down 10%, warming color and extending life. Visual adaptation from Casino - to transitional zones - to retail malls - was paramount. The Casino's surrounding river lighting levels are lowered, deeper in color saturation and more patterned, affording visual adaptation between adjacent retail mall areas. Because indirect light on blue ceilings produces cool color, unflattering to warm colored facades, T8 fluorescents were augmented with CMH asymmetric uplights at concealed ledges. Clouds illuminated with quartz lamps bounce warm light to fcades, floors and patrons. Concealment within
architecture allows late afternoon impressions. "Hazy day" effects
for malls were overcome with decorative lanterns outfitted with independent/dimmable
uplights, providing dramatic uplight to facades, warming reflected light
from architecture. Drastic currency depreciation made sophisticated equipment
importation impossible. Modified local equipment achieved optimal effect
though sandblasting lenses, adding serrated screens and adapting high
color rendering/efficient sources. Go back to Notable Lighting Locations Go back to IIDA Awards |
