Michael Lane
Michael Lane is the lead lighting specialist at the Lighting Design Lab and has been with the Lab since its inception in 1987. He has a degree in Architecture from Washington State University, 1982, and has specialized in the lighting field for over 20 years. He has worked for lighting design firms in New York City from 1982-1983, in Boston from 1984-1985 & in Seattle with his own firm from 1986 until starting at the Lab.

Michael is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and was in the first class to be Lighting Certified (LC) by NCQLP. He also serves on the IESNA Educational Materials Committee and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 90.1 Energy Committee.

As a lighting educator, Michael has taught numerous classes in 14 states locally, regionally, nationally and in 3 foreign countries

Eric Strandberg
Eric Strandberg, one of the Lighting Design Lab lighting specialist, has over fifteen years in the lighting industry. He studied theater and film lighting at The Evergreen St. College, Olympia, WA, receiving a BA in Lighting in 1987. From 1985-90 he operated a lighting production company doing live and film work. In 1990 Eric switched to architectural lighting sales and design in the Seattle area. Coming to the Lighting Design Lab in 1995 he brings this background in an effort to promote good design and energy efficiency on commercial projects. In 1997 he became one of the first to take the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Profession (NCQLP)exam to become Lighting Certified (LC).

Edward Bartholomew IALD, IESNA, LEED
For over fifteen years Edward has designed lighting for architectural projects.  During this time he has worked on a variety of project types including: retail, hospitality, residential, office and civic.  He has collaborated with a variety of clients including: Architects, Electrical Engineers, Interior Designers, Developers and Owners. Edward has a BA from San Francisco State University in Interdisciplinary Art, and a MFA from the Parsons School of Design in Architectural Lighting Design.  He has won numerous lighting design awards and has written several articles on lighting. He has served on several committees for IALD and LightFair including the Conference Committee and New Products Judge. Edward is a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNA) and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Craig Dilouie
Craig DiLouie is formerly publisher/editorial director of Architectural Lighting Magazine; editor of the NAILD, NAESCO and NALMCO journals; and communications director for NALMCO. He is the author of The Lighting Management Handbook, which was used by the NCQLP as a primary source for its LC certification exam. In addition, he is the recipient of NALMCO's Lumina Award for outstanding service to the organization, specifically in creating two books used as training guides for lighting management professionals seeking Senior and Apprentice Lighting Technician certification. DiLouie is now principal of ZING Communications, Inc., which provides writing, editing, marketing and consulting services to lighting manufacturers and organizations.

Randal Smith
Randal Smith is the Librarian and Webmaster for the Lighting Design Lab. Beginning at the Lighting Design Lab in 1989, he edits the Lighting Design Lab News, manages library resources, and operates the online services.

His career in energy efficiency spans two decades, starting at the Conservation Hotline for Seattle City Light. A generalist, he has a B.A. in Urban Studies from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He is very familiar with computers, and has taught classes on lighting software at the Lighting Design Lab.

As Librarian, he is familiar with lighting products, lighting research, and the types of information requested most often by lighting professionals. He served on the first Test Committee for the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Profession (NCQLP) Lighting Certification Exam. Randal has worked as a community organizer, market research analyst, grant writer and manager in addition to his 20 years in energy efficiency
